Oversize/Overweight Permits

Essential permits for loads that exceed standard legal dimensions and weight limits.

What It Covers

Allows vehicles or loads that exceed legal size and/or weight limits to travel on public roads.

When You Need It

Anytime your load exceeds the following general dimensions (varies by state):

  • Width: Over 8'6"
  • Height: Over 13'6"
  • Length: Over 65' (single unit) or 75' (combination)
  • Weight: Over 80,000 lbs gross, or per-axle limits

Regulations

Issued on a state-by-state basis, with specific route restrictions, escort requirements, and travel hour limits. ⚖️ Must comply with federal and DOT bridge formulas.

Fuel Permits (IFTA & Temporary Fuel Permits)

When You Need It

  • IFTA Permit
    For carriers based in an IFTA member jurisdiction traveling in two or more member jurisdictions.
  • Temporary Fuel Permit

Regulations

International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) requires quarterly filings. Temporary permits are valid for a limited time (usually 3-10 days).

IFTA Member Jurisdictions

IFTA includes all 48 contiguous U.S. states and 10 Canadian provinces. Alaska, Hawaii, and the territories are not IFTA members.

Trip Permits (Temporary Trip Permits)

Allows interstate travel without IRP (International Registration Plan) credentials.
